Electrofuels from excess renewable electricity at high variable renewable shares: cost, greenhouse gas abatement, carbon use and competition
نویسندگان
چکیده
Renewable transport fuels stem either from renewable electricity or biomass. We perform a model-based systems analysis of the usage electricity, biomass and carbon for fuel production, focusing on greenhouse gas abatement cost.

Renewable Electricity Policies, Heterogeneity, and Cost Effectiveness
Renewable electricity policies promote investment in renewable electricity generators and have become increasingly common around the world. Because of intermittency and the composition of other generators in the power system, the value of certain renewables—particularly wind and solar—varies across locations and technologies. This paper investigates the implications of this heterogeneity for th...
متن کاملCost-Effectiveness of Renewable Electricity Policies
We analyze policies to promote renewable sources of electricity. A renewable portfolio standard raises electricity prices and primarily reduces gas-fired generation. A “knee” of the cost curve exists between 15% and 20% goals for 2020 in our central case, and higher natural gas prices lower the cost of greater reliance on renewables. A renewable energy production tax credit lowers electricity p...

متن کاملEconomic, Social and Environmental Assessment of Electricity Generation from Renewable and Gas Technologies
Growing demand for electricity and the reduction of fossil fuels have made it essential to consider alternative and renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, to generate electricity. In this paper, by computing levelized output energy cost and levelized cost of electricity, the prices of electricity generated from the different combined cycle, wind, and photovoltaic power plants are com...
متن کاملCompetition in Electricity Markets with Renewable Energy Sources∗
This paper studies the effects of the diversification of energy portfolios on the merit order effect in an oligopolistic energy market. The merit order effect describes the negative impact of renewable energy, typically supplied at the low marginal cost, to the electricity market. We show when thermal generators have a diverse energy portfolio, meaning that they also control some or all of the ...
